Getting a new tattoo can be an exciting and meaningful experience, but it’s important to remember that proper aftercare is crucial for ensuring your tattoo heals well and looks its best. This article focuses on guiding you on how to take care of your tattoo after completion.

If you just got a new tattoo or thinking to get a new tattoo but are afraid of aftercare, then this article is for you. Visit Sam Tattoo India, the best tattoo studio in Mumbai to get your next tattoo.

The First Day After Getting A Tattoo

After your tattoo is finished, the professional tattoo artist will sanitize the area, administer an antibacterial cream, and shield the tattoo with a bandage or plastic cover. It’s crucial to avoid the urge to take off the covering immediately, as it protects the tattoo from bacteria and dirt. The right time to open the bandage may differ based on the size of the tattoo and other factors.

The first day after getting a tattoo, it’s common for the ink to bleed and cling to your clothes. If the clothing sticks, be gentle when taking off the fabric to avoid damaging your tattoo. If it won’t come off, slightly moisten the area with warm water and peel it off.

Taking Care Of The Tattoo In The First Week

  1. To begin with, ensure that you’ve cleaned your hands. Take off the cover or bandage carefully. If the bandage sticks to the tattoo, use lukewarm water to moisten the surface and then gently remove it.
  1. Use water and unscented antibacterial soap to make a lather, then gently rub the tattoo in a circular motion to remove any remaining plasma, extra ink, etc. Don’t use loofahs, bath towels, or sponges on a fresh tattoo, and stay away from soap with aroma, moisture beads, or scrubs.
  1. Gently rinse the tattoo, and then air dry or pat dry the area with a paper towel.
  1. After the tattoo has dried, use a very little amount of Calendula so that the tattoo can heal perfectly. You can repeat this step 2-3 times daily for the next 6-7 days.

Tattoo Aftercare Routine Over The Next Few Weeks

Your tattoo may start to itch or develop flaky scabs after the initial few days. When the peeling starts, switch to a fragrance-free moisturizer for two weeks. Avoid picking or scratching your tattoo and moisturize instead. The scabs will soon fall off and within 2-4 weeks, your tattoo will be fully healed.

If you feel uncomfortable at any point or notice any problem, contact your professional tattoo artist immediately.

Important Do’s and Don’ts To Follow

  • Avoid tight clothing on the area with your new tattoo, particularly during the healing process, as plasma and excess ink can cause clothes to stick to the tattoo.
  • It’s advisable to use clean towels, clothes, and bedding while your tattoo is healing. Do not wear dirty or sweaty clothes as they can cause infection.
  • For at least two weeks, avoid soaking your tattoo in water. This entails no swimming, bathing, or soaking the tattooed region in water for longer periods of time.
  • Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight for at least two weeks or until it’s fully healed. Afterward, it’s recommended to use SPF 30 sunscreen or higher whenever you’re in direct sunlight to prevent sun damage and make sure your tattoo lasts a long time.
  • You should avoid strenuous workouts during the healing process as it results in sweating that can affect the tattoo.
